Grinnell College Land Acknowledgement Statement
We acknowledge that we are on the ancestral territory of the Meskwaki, Sauk, and Ioway Peoples, whose land was taken from them through the encroachment of white settlers and then formally in 1845 through government land concessions. We wish to pay respect to the Meskwaki, Sauk, and Ioway elders both past and present and to recognize the Meskwaki Nation that exists today in Tama County, less than 30 miles from Grinnell College.
